Water sports

The western Algarve is a haven for water sports. With Lagos marine only 10 mins drive away deep sea fishing, dolphin seeing, yacht charters and day tripping on old fishing boats through the amazing rock tunnels along the lagos coastline is available.

Windsurfing

Windsurfing is plentiful during the months of May through to November with an almost trade like wind picking up from lunchtime until the evening. The Meia praia has rental facilities with the latest Hifly, Exocet boards and Yes sails available for hire. The Meia praia has a cross off shore wind usually bringing in a steady force 4/5 most afternoons and a gentle on shore breeze in the morning for does beginning. The lagoon at Alvor is also a very popular place to windsurf and kite surf. Being sheltered from the open sea the lagoon benefits from a funnelling wind that can produce some very good blasting, bump and jump conditions. I class Alvor lagoon very much as Poole harbour in the sunshine. Martinhal just a stones throw away from Cape st Vincent is also a superb beach to windsurf, with the enthuses very much on great blasting and freesytle.

Surfing

Great surfing conditions can be found along the west coast beaches. These are only 30/45 mins drive away. The conditions around Sagres and just up the coast at beaches such as Arrafina, Amoeira can be classic.
